Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a mental health care plan?
You do not require a mental health care plan or a referral from your GP to see a counsellor. You can book whenever you are ready. Medicare does not currently cover rebates for counselling, although my pricing has been set to cover the gap that you would normally get refunded when covered by Medicare. Refer to GP or medicare for more information on mental health care plans. With this said, there is no limit to the number of sessions that you can book in a year with a counsellor.
What is the difference between a psychologist and a counsellor?
- Both are qualified professionals supporting individuals with their mental health concerns. Like psychologists, counsellors practice under a registered governing body such as ACA or PACFA
- Psychologists are trained in the science of thought and behaviour, and use a diagnostic and medical approach. Counsellors do not diagnose, but rather use a collaborative approach with the client to explore their concerns. Counsellors are often trained to be expert listeners, using person-centred approaches and unconditional positive regard to support an individual in their journey.
- I also offer counselling to clients who are part of the NDIS (National Disability Insurance Scheme).
